Ethereum releases phase zero of Ethereum 2.0 upgrade

  • “This marks the first release in a series of weekly releases through February 2019,” Ethereum GitHub.
  •  Ethereum is currently in the third stage of its transformative roadmap.

Ethereum has today announced the start of the initial pre-release for phase zero of its upcoming Ethereum 2.0 upgrade. The news was first mentioned on the network’s GitHub on January 31.

“This marks the first release in a series of weekly releases through February 2019. Phase 0 in v0.1 is relatively feature complete and approaching stable.”

The upgrade that is also referred to as Serenity is set to be a game changer for the Ethereum network. It will see the network transform from the proof-of-work (PoW) consensus algorithm to proof-of-stake (PoS). The upgrade is also meant to set the groundworks for Ethereum scalability, improved security as well as economic sustainability.

Ethereum is currently in the third stage of its transformative roadmap. The stage encompasses a series of two hardforks; Byzantium and Constantinople. The two must take place before the fourth stage also known as Ethereum 2.0/Serenity is carried out. The Constantinople upgrade was to take place mid-January but was postponed following the discovery of certain vulnerabilities.

Ethereum is currently trading at $107.17 after failing to recoil above the resistance at $108.00. The asset is slightly in the green after making a comeback from the intraday lows around $104.13.
